What parents should know
Parents must register their children with the Children’s Ministry. This is important because it ensures the safety of the children, provide contact information and establish the identities of the adults authorized to pick the children up when worship services end. Registering the children also helps the Children’s Ministry team know of any food allergies or health conditions.
The members of the children’s ministry are caring and committed to giving children a church service experience that is geared to their age level. This is not a baby-sitting service. It is a church service for children.
When do I need to pick up my child from Children’s Church?
Children’s Church ends immediately after the 11:00 a.m. divine worship service. Be sensitive to our dedicated volunteer staff and pick up your child within 5 minutes after the service has ended.
What parents can do
Parents should be respectful and keep their voices down during children’s church service. They should not interrupt or disrupt the proceedings.
Volunteers Wanted
Volunteering your time and resources would be appreciated.
For parents who are volunteering, on the day of Children’s Church, come to the Preschool at 10:30 a.m., immediately after Sabbath School, so we will know that you are ready to serve.
I volunteered to “help as needed” at Children’s Church. What will I be expected to do?
1st - Be friendly. Get to know the children in your group if you've been assigned to a group.
2nd - Be a good example. Show them that the things we learn about in church are the things that you do each day.
3rd - Be helpful. Sit down at the table with them and help them open their snacks. Write their names, or help with whatever the activity may be.
4th - Be patient. Time and patience are some of the greatest gifts we can give our children.
5th - Pray. Pray for your children and all of the children of Mount Calvary that they will grow closer to God and make a decision to give their hearts to God.
What if I have to be absent on my volunteer date?
Let us know in advance! This way we will have time to arrange for someone else to serve in your place for that day and schedule you for a different day.
What if I have more questions?
You can contact Dr. Angela August, Mary Caleb and Terah Ponder
A Word from Our Director
By Dr. Angela August
Children’s Church is a child-friendly, Bible-centered worship service for boys and girls, ages 3 to 6. The Bible exploration adventure teaches kids enduring lessons from God’s word.
Parents drop their kids between Sabbath School and the Divine Service. We have a team of committed creative Christians to care for your children.
Children’s Church services are held every second and fourth Sabbath of each month. Our program involves a song service segment, feeding snacks, introduction of the week's theme, recital of that day's memory verse, a lively story, skit or puppet show and prayer.
The kids are then divided into three groups: for arts and craft-related activities linked to that week's theme and which they take home; the missionary station where kids make cards for those in need; and the action station where kids engage in mobile activities. The Bible-based theme can be a safety or health message.
Since Children's Church started in April 2005, attendance has grown from about twenty-five children to well over fifty kids in the three-to-six age group. Our outreach program has resulted in several parents regularly attending services at Mount Calvary. We plan to encourage this development through innovative projects intended to expand the evangelistic mission of Mount Calvary's Children's Ministry.
The kids have also been making greeting cards to be given out as part of their outreach mission. The Children' Ministry sends cards to service men and women overseas during the Thanksgiving and Christmas seasons. Christmas cards are also sent to the sick and shut-in and to families that have lost their relatives. The Children's Ministry has had a positive and encouraging response to this outreach program. Service men and women have expressed their appreciation. The Children’s Ministry provides a church bulletin for children. The bulletin is distributed every week, one for 3-to-6-year old and the other for children aged 7-to-12.
The Children's Ministry also has child-friendly and spiritually-based programs and events to provide kids with a spiritual alternative to the secular holidays, such as Halloween.
